ON MAY IT WOULD BEGIN THE CONSTRUCTION OF PUERTO WILLIAMS MULTIPURPOSE PORT

In process of adjudication is the work the most desired project in Puerto Williams, which will represent an investment of $29.000 million of chilean pesos.

The new port infrastructure includes the construction of a dock with 150-meter-long with a frontal head of approximately 130 meters, which will be located between the fisherman’s pier and the “Guardian Brito” Chilean Navy’s dock. This would allow docking ships up to 240 meters of length.

In addition, the project include a passenger terminal with 1400 square meters, where there will be offices from the SAG, Customs and International Police authorities.

The execution of the works will be divided into two stages: maritime and land works. The first is assigned with $21.000 million of chilean pesos, and a two-year work execution period. This considers the construction of 150 meters long of the dock, also the esplanade where the passenger terminal and container storage will be. The second phase has a designated amount of $ 8,000 million Chilean pesos, which includes the supporting elements for berthing, esplanade, potable water circuit for the supply of docked vessels, tank for fuel delivery, and finally the building of offices

The public works’ seremi (regional secretary of the ministry), Pablo Rendoll, said that this project is one of the most expected by the Antarctic province in the recent decades, given that these facilities will allow connect Chile with Chile, as well as giving tourist services, and also scientific services because there are many scientific groups who travel with this objective to the Antarctica
